The Video Game Media Assets Collection includes discs of art assets that were sent to gaming press in the ’90s and early 2000s. Collected by the Video Game History Foundation, the collection is available available on Flickr and mirrored at Archive.org.
The collection includes a few art assets from popular titles such as Sonic Adventure (1999, Dreamcast) and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (1999, PlayStation) as well as less successful games, such as Tomba! 2 (1999, PlayStation) or Small Soldiers (1998, PlayStation). Even more relevant to Maze Rats readers is the collection of advertisements for the Nintendo Advanced Video System (featured below) and the NES Test Launch since those illustrate more of the culture than the actual games.
In early March, we discussed how the Video Game History Foundation is working to preserve cultural artifacts related to video games. If you are interested in helping out, you can check out their donation page by clicking here.
